Carolyn
Carolyn, the owner and founder of Rapunzel, has been at work behind the chair since graduating from Marvel in Kingston many moons ago and is still as excited to bring forth your inner beauty as she was back then. Carolyn has trained extensively with many top brands including Mastey Paris, Zotos and Schwartzkopf and ended her search with Aveda in 1985. A committed environmental steward, Carolyn has partnered solely with Aveda since opening Rapunzel in 1989 and makes sure that Rapunzel’s environmental footprint is as small as possible as a registered Green Circle Salon. Her passion is apparent in everything she takes on; after decades in the industry she is still an avid participant in (and advocate of) advanced education in both hair and personal wellness. Carolyn is also a yoga instructor and former studio owner, an SLC Cosmetology board member and remains a very active and innovative member of Gananoque’s business community.
Melissa
Melissa has been a stylist at Rapunzel for the past 18 years and has as many years of advanced Aveda training under her belt. She joined the Rapunzel team after years of living in “hairdresser denial” - a condition common to children of hairstylists! Melissa is our resident Aveda Ambassador and (as Carolyn’s daughter) is a lifelong Aveda consumer and champion. She is also our event organizer, annually taking on Earth month as her passion project. A proud SLC Alum, Melissa is an all around hairstylist and education addict, equally comfortable in barbered looks, current cuts and styling, and all types of colour formulation and application.
Kelly
Kelly has been employed at Rapunzel for almost 10 years, starting her career as a co-op student from GSS. She is equal parts enthusiasm and ability. Beautiful colours and cuts regularly emerge from Kelly’s station. If you love to travel, you are speaking her language! Kelly’s bubbly personality regularly buoys up her teammates and her love of all things Aveda is apparent in her work and interactions.
Molly
Molly has been at Rapunzel for more than 10 years - from assistant to apprentice to stylist, she knows the whole flow of the salon. Molly is our chameleon, always with a fresh look to inspire you and to make you ask “Who’s the new girl?” She is a long hair lady, personally and professionally - ready to hook you up with extensions or just a beautiful long style for formal or for fun. Molly is not to be typecast though, short or long, this stylist also delivers results in cut and colour.
Katie
Katie has been with Rapunzel for almost a decade, quickly becoming the beating heart of the team. Friendship and caring come easily to Katie and she is a natural nurturer. As a result, Katie has a very loyal following of clients that feel heard when Katie delivers on a beautiful colour and cut that has been designed with care. Katie is also very organized and is committed to customer service; it is her voice that often greets you on the phone and her smile (behind the mask, of course) that is regularly and freely given to all.
Krista
Krista is known as our resident cheerleader and Disney princess. Krista has been employed at Rapunzel for at least 13 years, starting as a co-op student, moving onto hairstylist apprentice and graduate and finally to esthetics where she truly found her vocation. Krista is an expert in Aveda skin care and is a facial master. In the last few years she has also become a master eyelash extension artist. Though she is currently on maternity leave, we hope to have her back in the salon in early 2021.
Rapunzel has been a fixture of Gananoque business for over 30 years. Through 3 locations, ongoing education, continual growth and change, we still strive to provide hair service that you will return for. As one of the few sustainable salons in the Kingston and Gananoque area, we strive to exist in harmony with our environment and are committed to keeping up with environmental sustainability in hairdressing. Located in a century building in the heart of our beautiful downtown, we blend our creative energy with the beauty of the past. Collaboration is at the heart of our business; we love to work with local artists and entrepreneurs as this keeps us fresh for you!
